Taylor Drops Season Best, but Strong First Quarter by Lynx Dooms Women’s Basketball

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team were downed by the Lynx of Rhodes College, 72-60, Sunday afternoon inside Mallory Gymnasium.

-Rhodes sprinted out to a 21-9 first quarter lead, as the home team forced five Sewanee turnovers and shot 8-of-16 from the field.

-Sewanee cut the deficit from 20 at the end of the third quarter to 12 at the final buzzer thanks to a 27-19 fourth quarter.

-The Tigers did most of their work from the free throw line. As a team, they went 18-of-20 (90 percent), the highest mark for the Purple and Gold this season (minimum 10 attempts). In the fourth quarter, 11 of the team's 27 points came at the charity stripe.

-Bella Taylor dropped a season-best 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added six boards. The senior is now 36 points away from tying Kim Fauls Parlett's (C'97) 1,559 career points for third all-time. 

-Ellie Treanton, who went a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, and Bella Bombassi each added eight points.

-Alyssa Owens led the Lynx with 14 points, while Caroline Taylor added 12 off the bench.

-Allie Young dropped 11 boards.

The final three regular season games will take place inside Juhan Gymnasium. The homestand begins Friday with a test against the surging Vikings of Berry, who will enter next weekend with a seven-game winning streak.
