SEWANEE, Tenn. (Dec. 3, 2013) – The Sewanee men's basketball team will look to stay unbeaten at home this season when the Tigers welcome in-state rival Maryville for a 7:00 p.m. contest inside Juhan Gymnasium, Wednesday.
Sewanee (3-2) is currently 3-0 this season on the Domain. After an 82-63 win over Toccoa Falls last Tuesday, the Tigers have now won 23 out of their 28 games inside Juhan Gymansium.
In that game, sophomore Leo Born led Sewanee with 15 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting. In fact, the Tigers continued to show their depth as 14 players scored and all 16 players finished with at least one rebound.
Overall, Sewanee is averaging 75.6 points per game. That is 10 points higher than the Tigers' 65.2 ppg in 2012-13.
Additionally, the Tigers have a higher field goal percentage and better rebound and assist per game averages then a season ago.
Maryville (1-4) travels to Sewanee after losing three straight games. Despite averaging 80.6 ppg, the Scots have dropped contests against Bryan, Emory, and Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Oglethorpe.
Individually, Jaumonee Byrd leads Maryville in scoring at 17.4 ppg. The sophomore forward is also averaging 9.0 rebounds per game while making 62.5 percent of his attempts.
