GILBERT, Ariz. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has announced on Wednesday that two Sewanee field hockey student-athletes have been selected to the Zag Sports/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction.
Wheeler, a freshman from Richmond, Va., earns her first selection as a Scholar of Distinction. Already named to the Southern Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll and the National Academic Squad by the NFHCA, Wheeler tallied four total points this season, as she played all 16 games last season.
Wrather, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, earns her second consecutive Scholar of Distinction selection. Also selected to the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the NFHCA National Academic Squad, Wrather recorded three defensive saves in 11 games last season.
The Division III Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.
The SAA recorded a total of eight student-athletes to the list. Last week, 51 players from the SAA were selected to the National Academic Squad.
The Sewanee field hockey team finished with a 10-6 record during the 2018 season, and they captured the No. 3 seed in the SAA Tournament.
