SEWANEE, Tenn. - It has been a productive summer for the Sewanee baseball program. Several members of the program have competed in summer leagues throughout the country, including two of the top summer leagues: the Cape Cod Baseball League and Valley Baseball League.
Trey Holland: Fuquay-Varina Twins, Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League/Cotuit Kettleers, Cape Cod Baseball League
The rising sophomore continued his success on the mound from the spring to the summer. The All-Southern Athletic Association Second Team member pitched 36 innings for the Fuquay-Varina Twins, with a 1.91 ERA, tops in the league, a 0.94 WHIP, second-best in the league, 38 strikeouts, and a .172 batting average against.
His production for the Twins has earned him a spot with Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the duration of the summer.
The Durham, N.C. native posted a 3.40 ERA in 10 appearances for the Tigers in 2018, fanning 31 batters and surrendering 12 base on balls in 42.1 innings.
Riley Brandvold: Woodstock River Bandits, Valley Baseball League
Brandvold has taken his game to another level for the River Bandits this summer. The rising senior has faced strong competition on a nightly basis. He is currently hitting .233 with two home runs and nine RBI.
From July 1-15, Brandvold found his stroke at the plate, hitting .375 with four doubles, a homer and a triple. He has also not committed an error in the outfield in 28 games for the River Bandits.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native posted a .269 batting average in 2018 for Sewanee, launched three dingers and posted 12 RBI while scoring 22 runs.
Tyler Dunbar: Delray Beach Lightning, South Florida Collegiate Baseball League
Dunbar had a successful summer in the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League. The rising sophomore appeared in 20 games, with 42 at-bats, one home run and six RBI for the Lightning.
The Tallahassee, Fla. native recorded four doubles and a triple for the Tigers in 27 games last season.
Jared Demkowicz: California Grizzly, Palm Springs Collegiate League
Demkowicz had a strong summer for the Grizzly. The rising junior appeared in 13 games as a position player, with seven games on the mound. At the plate, the Grosse Pointe, Mich. native posted a .250 batting average, with an on-base percentage of .437.
On the mound, Demkowicz tossed 9.2 innings pitched, fanned 13 batters and posted a 2.50 ERA.
The All-SAA Honorable Mention recorded splits of .308/.459/.558 for Sewanee last season, going into launch mode six times with 22 RBI. In 74 career games, Demkowicz has walked 52 times compared to 39 strikeouts.
Braxton Swanson: Prospect Patriots, Sunbelt Baseball League
Swanson appeared in five games for the Patriots, including one appearance on the mound.
The Waleska, Ga. native played in nine contests for Sewanee in 2018, recorded five hits and drove in a run.
