ATLANTA - The Sewanee volleyball team collected a split of a Sunday tri-match at Oglethorpe, defeating the Stormy Petrels in straight sets before falling to No. 12 Emory in straight sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED, OGLETHORPE
-Trailing 13-3 early in the first set, the Tigers rallied to tie the set at 21 apiece thanks to an 18-8 run. After tying the set, Sewanee won the final four points to secure the set.
-In the second set, the momentum stayed on the side of the Purple and Gold, as they started the contest on an 8-1 run en route to a 25-20 win.
-Sewanee dominated the third set with a 25-10 win thanks to 14 kills on no attacking errors and an .824 percentage. On the defensive side of the ball, the Tigers held the Petrels to six kills and an attack percentage of .043.
HOW IT HAPPENED, EMORY
-In the second match of the day, the Tigers struggled to get things going with the Eagles, ranked 12th in the country. Emory won the first two sets, 25-13, 25-14.
-In the third set, the Tigers played neck-and-neck with Emory. Leading 24-22, the Eagles rallied to tie the set at 24.
-After a Sewanee timeout, the Tigers were able to get the first three points in the tiebreak, but Emory evened the score on each of these instances.
-Tied at 27, Emory recorded match point on a kill, but the Tigers would take an attack error on the next rally to even the set back at 28.
-However, the Eagles scored the final two points to win the set and match.
SEWANEE KEY STATS
-Destiny Stewart led Sewanee with 12 kills in the Oglethorpe before adding six in the Emory match.
-Constance Connolly recorded a double-double in the OU match with 29 assists and 11 digs.
-Peyton Parent posted 13 digs in the Emory contest.
OGLETHORPE KEY STATS
-Jacoby Sims led all Petrel attackers with 10 kills.
-Hailee Bugg recorded eight digs.
EMORY KEY STATS
-Karissa Dzurik posted 10 kills for Emory, while Elyse Thompson added 15 digs.
Sewanee's final homestand of the 2018 season takes place next weekend, as Birmingham-Southern makes the trip for a 2 p.m. first serve Saturday.
