LEXINGTON, Ky. - One day after earning the Southern Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week, freshman right side hitter Lilly Reilly has been selected as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week, announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Tuesday.
The freshman helped lead the program to a 5-0 week, including winning the Maroon Classic en route to being named the Most Outstanding Player at the two-day tournament.
This is the first National Player of the Week honor in program history.
In four matches over the past weekend, the Lovettsville, Va. native recorded 52 kills on 113 attempts, committing 10 errors for an attack percentage of .371. Earning a double-double in three of the four matches this past weekend, she recorded 3.21 digs per set and added seven service aces.
Including last week's sweep of Covenant, Reilly recorded an attack percentage better than .345 in each of the five matches played.
She also rose her season attack percentage from .110 after the first weekend of play to .282 with her performance.
"I think it is very cool; she is the only one in the country to earn this award for Division III," said head coach Nancy Mueller-Culver. "Lilly is a great player and a better person. Her work ethic shows in earning this award."
In 2018, Reilly is fifth in the conference in kills (3.11), third in total kills (87) and sixth in attacking percentage (.282). She also has four double-doubles on the season.
Reilly and the rest of the Tigers return home to open a season-long six-match homestand, beginning Wednesday night when MUW from Columbus, Miss. makes the trek to the Domain.
