Early deficit too much to overcome at Pomona-Pitzer

POMONA, Calif. (March 19, 2014) – A 5-1 first-half lead helped Pomona-Pitzer to a 12-9 victory over the Sewanee women's lacrosse team Wednesday at So. Athletic Complex.

The Sagehens did not show any rust after a 17-day layoff. Pomona-Pitzer outscored Sewanee 11-4 through the first 45 minutes of play.

Despite goals by Katie Riddle and Wittney Reed the Tigers slowly started coming back with 13:22 to play. Despite late scores from Reed, Janie Hannon and Sally Anne Greenwood the Tigers could only pull to within three by the end of the match.

Despite winning the draw control battle 12-10, Sewanee was outshot by the Sagehens 33-26. Sewanee was also undone by 18 turnovers.

Individually, Reed netted four goals and an assist on seven shots. Greenwood and Hannon also finished with two goals.

Sarah Markowitz led Pomona-Pitzer with three goals.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 7:00 p.m. (PST) match at Redlands, Thursday.
