Reed leads Sewanee to a blow out win over Huntingdon

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 22, 2014) – Five goals by sophomore Wittney Reed helped the Sewanee women's lacrosse team to a 17-7 win over visiting Huntingdon, Sunday, at Puett Field.

The Tigers scored 12 goals in the first half and five after the break.

Off an assist from Reed, sophomore Katie Riddle opened the scoring with the first goal of the match. Reed followed two minutes later, before Huntingdon finally got on the board with a shot from Jen Price.

Over the next 15 minutes, Sewanee had goals from Reed, Ellie Murphy, Mallory Grimm, Ella Richardson, and Brita Brudvig.

In the second half, things stayed the same. On the attack, the Tigers scored four goals in a four minutes stretch early in the half. During that time Sally Anne Greenwood, Murphy, Riddle, and Chelsea Staunton all found the back of the net.

After two goals by Huntingdon's Jamie Reschke, Brudvig finalized the Sewanee points with a goal with 3:58 left.

Overall, Sewanee finished with an advantage in draw controls, groundballs, clears, and caused turnovers.

On defense, freshman Crawford Horan earned her third win this season with nine saves.

Sewanee continues its homestand with a 5:00 p.m. match against Augustana, Thursday.
