Tigers fall at Christopher Newport in NCAA Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (May 8, 2013) – Making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team fell at nationally-ranked Christopher Newport 23-6 Wednesday afternoon at Captains Field.

The Tigers end their season with a 13-7 record and as the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Champions.

CNU (18-2) jumped out to a quick first half lead after the Captains netted four straight goals.

Sewanee finally got on the board with 23:55 left in the first half, after Sally Anne Greenwood scored off a pass from Mallory Grimm

Unfortunately, that would be the only offense Sewanee would have in the first half. CNU closed the first with 11 straight scores.

The Captains opened the second half on a 5-0 run, before Sewanee came alive with four consecutive goals.

During that stretch Wittney Reed, Molly Arnold, Olivia Vietor, and Caitlin-Jean Juricic all fired in scores.

Juricic would also add one final goal for Sewanee with 23 seconds left.

Jessica Singer and Ashton Marshall led CNU with four goals each.

Wednesday also marked the final match for seniors Vietor, Arnold, and Anna Morrow.
