SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 27, 2013) – This season the Sewanee women's lacrosse team has played in a number of tough weather conditions. On Saturday that trend continued, when the Tigers punched their ticket into the SAA Championship match with a 15-6 win over Berry College on a cold, wet IM Field.
With the score at 4-2, Sewanee continued to roll behind the play of Ellie Murphy. After netting her first goal with 20:35 left in the first half, the sophomore would add two more scores before halftime to give the Tigers a four-goal advantage, 7-3, at the break.
In the second half, Murphy and the Tigers extended their lead. After another goal by Greenwood, the Baltimore, Md., native added her fourth and fifth scores.
On defense, Chelsea Staunton led the way with four forced turnovers and six ground balls. Additionally, Murphy, Anna Morrow, Caitlin-Jean Juricic, and Greenwood all finished with at least two forced turnovers.
The Tigers will look to win the first-ever SAA Championship when Sewanee takes on second-seeded Centre at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at Harris Stadium. The Colonels topped Millsaps in the other semifinal match, Saturday.
