ATLANTA - Announced on Wednesday, Sewanee women's basketball guard Bella Taylor earns the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor after her performances on the hardwood between Dec. 26-Jan. 2.
Taylor returned from the Christmas break one point shy from 1,000 in her career. On Sewanee's second possession of the contest against Wooster on Dec. 29, Taylor made a layup on the first score of the game to become the 13th Sewanee women's basketball player to hit the 1,000-point mark. Taylor finished the contest with a 24-point performance on 10-of-18 shooting in Sewanee's 69-56 win.
The next day, against Covenant, the Sparta, Tenn. native scored a career-high 35 points, missing the school record by two points, on 11-of-22 shooting. Taylor recorded a double-double in the contest, collecting 13 boards. She contributed to the Tigers forcing double overtime with the Scots, making all 10 of her shots from the charity stripe.
In Sewanee's 81-55 victory over Wesleyan (Ga.) on Tuesday, she scored 10 points with three assists.
