BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sewanee softball team suffered a doubleheader defeat to the hands of Birmingham-Southern College, 12-1 and 16-5, Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Panthers started the scoring in the opening frame with an RBI double.
-BSC responded with 11 unanswered runs, nine coming in the bottom half of the third to seal the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-The bats started out hot for Birmingham-Southern in the series finale, scoring a run in the first before scoring 12 times in the second.
-Two batters later, Taylor Wagner scorched a triple that brought Hoffman home for the fifth run.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Rachel Hoffman totaled three hits on the day, two hits in game one, with two RBI.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Abby Spencer went a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with an RBI and a run, and in game two, she scored twice on three walks.
-Savannah Lee tallied two hits in each contest.
-Jessica Perley (4-7) allowed one earned run on five hits in the complete game win.
-Leah White started game two for BSC and allowed five earned in three innings. Haley Crumpton (22-5) finished the contest and earned the win.
With the regular season in the books, the Tigers will now turn their attention to the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Softball Tournament. The 7-seeded Tigers will rematch with the Panthers in the quarterfinal round on Friday.
