ATLANTA (May 14, 2017) – The No. 22 ranked Sewanee men's tennis team fell in its NCAA Tournament Regional championship match by a 5-0 score against long-time rival No. 3 ranked Emory, Sunday.
The loss was only the fourth defeat all season for the Tigers. Sewanee wrapped up its year with an impressive 22-4 record. All four losses came against nationally-ranked teams, including two by the Eagles.
Emory opened the contest by winning at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Scott Rubinstein and James Spaulding defeated Jack Gray and Alejandro Becker at No. 1, 8-3. A court over, Adrien Bouchet and Max Renke topped Andres Carro and Jordan Brewer, 8-4.
From there, Emory capped off their Sweet Sixteen win as Jemison defeated Carro in singles 6-1, 6-2 and Josh Goodman topped Davis by the same score.
