SEWANEE, Tenn. - For the sixth consecutive season, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team appeared in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament final, as the program finished as a finalist in the championship contest.
The Sewanee men's lacrosse team finished with a 10-7 record and made it to the championship of the SAA Tournament for the sixth straight year. However, the season would come to an end in Memphis, Tenn., as Rhodes defeated Sewanee, 14-8.
Leading the way for Sewanee on offense in 2018 was Hayden Hunt, who finished fourth in goals scored with 39 and seventh in points with 49. The junior is nine goals shy of 100 in his career with 91.
Ryan Stubits was the main faceoff specialist for the Tigers in 2018, winning 209 of the 316 attempts. His 209 faceoff wins were the most in the league. The junior scooped up 112 groundballs this past season.
Cal Pearce forced 17 turnovers in 2018, including three in Sewanee's regular season showdown against Rhodes on April 6.
Memorable Game | Sewanee at Berry, SAA Semifinals, April 22
After an 11-9 win over Hendrix in the first round of the SAA Tournament, the Tigers travelled to Berry for the semifinals. In the first meeting on April 14, the Vikings used a 5-1 fourth quarter to defeat the Tigers, 14-12.
The second time around would benefit the Tigers, who trailed 9-7 going into the fourth quarter, scored four straight goals to take an 11-9 lead en route to a 14-12 victory.
Thomas Lynde, who scored his two goals in the fourth period, tied the contest at 9-9 with 12:18 left in the contest. About a minute later, Hayden Hunt scored his first goal three goals in the final period, with the first the go-ahead goal. He finished the contest with five goals on 11 shots.
