Brown’s offense helps Sewanee hold on against Keynon

SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 2, 2014) – A match-high three goals by Davis Brown helped the Sewanee men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win over Keynon, Sunday, at Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

The Tigers jumped in front early, after Matthew Stiefel ripped a shot in from Hayden Byrd. Brown then pushed Sewanee's lead to 2-0 with a goal with 6:48 left in the first period.

Nick Leanard then netted Keynon's lone goal of the first half after the ensuing face-off.

In the second, the Tigers' offense came alive. A goal by Stiefel and an unassisted shot by Michael Morris gave Sewanee a 4-1 lead.

Then right before the half, Brown scored again off an assist from Morris.

Keynon did rally in the third period. Out of the locker room, the Lords scored three straight goals before Brown netted a shot from Mike Woo.

After Kenyon pulled to within one with 14:04 remaining in the fourth period, Baylor Koch took advantage of a man-up opportunity with goal from Byrd.

The Lords would add two late goals by Nick Leanrd, however George Bukawyn scored with 8:45 left to keep the Tiger advantage.

Individually, along with Davis, Byrd finished with two assists while Morris added a goal and two assists.

In goal, senior Tommy Healy earned his second win this season with 10 saves.

The Tigers return to action with a 5:00 p.m. match Friday against Trine.
