Quick start lifts Sewanee into SAA Semifinals

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 20, 2013) – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team wasted little time taking control of its Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Quarterfinal match against Oglethorpe Saturday as the Tigers hammered OU 23-2 at Harris Stadium.

The Tigers scored 11 goals in the first period, two in the second, six in the third period, and four in the fourth.

Davis Brown, Geoff Pippin, and John Stiefel led the Tigers with three goals.

Pierce Leonard, James Millard, Reed Daniel, Joe Irby, and Louis Cusano also found the back of the net more than once with two goals each.

Overall, Sewanee forced 26 turnovers, grabbed 51 groundballs, and outshot the Stormy Petrels by 43 attempts.

Attacker Arness Holsey led Oglethorpe with two goals.

Sewanee will now advance to next Friday's semifinal match where the Tigers will host Birmingham-Southern at Puett Field.
