Leonard leads Sewanee past Kenyon, 6-5

GAMBIER, Ohio (March 2, 2013) – Three goals by Pierce Leonard helped the Sewanee men's lacrosse team stay unbeaten after the Tigers defeated host Kenyon, 6-5, Saturday afternoon at McBride Field.

Leonard netted scores in the first, second, and fourth periods.

Despite goals by Leonard and Reed Daniel, the Tigers found themselves down one, 4-3, at halftime.

Out of the locker room, Sewanee responded. After Jack Murray tied the score off a pass from Daniel, Michael Morris pushed the Tigers ahead with a goal midway through the third.

Up 6-4 with 6:51 left in the match, Leonard added his final score for some late insurance. In fact, that goal would be vital after Kenyon netted a goal with 3:39 to play.

Along with Leonard, Daniel finished with one goal and two assists. Additionally, Morris, Murray, and Cotter Brown had at least one point.

Defensively, reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Week goalkeeper Tommy Healy earned his third win after he stopped 13 shots on 18 attempts.

Sewanee will continue its three-match road trip with a 3:30 p.m. (EST) contest next Friday at Greensboro.
