2017-18 PREVIEW: Men's Basketball

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The 2017-18 edition of the Sewanee men's basketball team will commence on Wednesday night, when the Tigers host Emory & Henry for a 6:30 p.m. tip inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Tigers finished the 2016-17 season with a 15-12 record and a 7-7 record in SAA play. Sewanee finished as a semifinalist in the SAA Tournament a year ago, where the Tigers fell 98-81 to defending tournament champion Rhodes.

The 2018 edition of the Tigers has five newcomers to the squad and 13 returners all looking to find time on the floor after the top three leading scorers from a year ago have completed their eligibility.

Sophomore Adrian Thomas is the lead returner for the Tigers, averaging 8.7 points per game and 4.1 boards per game, on 18 minutes per contest.

Of all the returners coming back for 2017-18, Hunter Buescher leads all returners with an average of 19.9 minutes per game.

Be on the lookout for newcomers Sean McDonough and Luke Smith. In the exhibition against Austin Peay, McDonough drained four 3-pointers in the second half, while Smith led the team with 23 points on 7-for-17 shooting in 36 minutes.

Head coach Mick Hedgepeth begins his first season at the helm, and the second season overall with the men's basketball program.
