Sewanee Football Announces 2017 Schedule

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Head Coach Travis Rundle and the Sewanee football staff have announced its 2017 schedule, which begins on Sept. 2.

The 123rd season of Tiger Football opens by hosting Kenyon College of Gambier, Ohio in Week 1, Sept. 2. Scheduled for a noon kickoff. this will be the third straight season the two teams will square up in the season opener.

The Tigers took the first matchup in 2015 with a 31-21 win at Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium, but the Lords defeated the Tigers in the second matchup last season on the road, 21-17.

Following the home opener, Sewanee will hit the road for the next three Saturdays, travelling to Washington and Lee (Sept. 9), Austin (Sept. 16) and Millsaps (Sept. 23).

Located in Lexington, Va., Washington and Lee are no stranger to Sewanee football, as the history dates back to 1892. Meeting in 61 of the last 62 years, the Tigers will look to stop a two-game losing streak against the Generals, with their last win coming at home on Sept. 13, 2014.

Week 3 of the season begins Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with one of two newcomers to the conference in football, Austin College on Sept. 16. Located in Sherman, Texas, Austin joined the SAA as a football-only affiliate after the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) disbanded football as a conference sport after the 2016 season.

Sewanee's final game of the three-game road swing will take place in Jackson, Miss. against Millsaps College on Sept. 23 at Harper Davis Field.

The Tigers return home for Hall of Fame Weekend on Sept. 30, with a conference matchup against Hendrix at 1 p.m.. The Warriors will come to the mountain with a three-game winning streak against the Tigers.

Sewanee next hosts Berry College, who claimed a share of its first SAA title last season, for Family Weekend on Oct. 7. The contest will be under the lights at Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Week 7 of the football schedule will see the Tigers travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on Birmingham-Southern on Oct. 14.

The Tigers will return home on Oct. 21 to take on the second of two newcomers to the SAA for football, Trinity (Texas) at 12 p.m. Like Austin College, Trinity is also joining the SAA as a football-only affiliate.

Sewanee's final road game of the 2017 season will take place against Rhodes College in Memphis on Oct. 28.

The season finale for the 2017 edition of the Tigers will take place on Nov. 4 against Centre. Not only will that be the Homecoming game, but we will also honor our seniors. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.

Travis Rundle, head coach of the Tigers, enters his first season at the helm of the Sewanee football program.
