SEWANEE, Tenn. - Junior rider Margaret Dupree, after a stellar performance at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Zone 5, Region 1 Regional Show at the Sewanee Equestrian Center.
Dupree was named Reserve Champion in the Walk/Trot/Canter division at the Regional Championship show.
The Fort Mill, S.C. native will advance to the Zone Championship show held Saturday, April 7 at Hardeeville, S.C., and it is hosted by Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah Campus.
Equestrian coach Emily Cavender:
It’s always very exciting when a rider qualifies for the Regional Championship show because it is so challenging to get there. You have to consistently beat riders from nine other schools throughout the regular season, and then come back and place top two at Regionals to advance to Zone Championships. For Margaret, as a junior and the Reserve Regional Champion in her division, she’s really primed to go on to the Zone Championship show and be successful. She’s had two years of show experience to help her prepare, and she’s really at the top of her game mentally and physically. Now the challenge is to go beat the other top two riders from each southern region of the IHSA in order to earn a spot at the IHSA National Championship Show. My expectation for her at the Zone show is to remain as focused as she has been at home. Her focus was what set her apart from the other competitors at Regionals, and it’s what will help to, hopefully, put her in the top two at Zones and send her to Nationals in May.
The 2018 IHSA National Championship Show will take place on May 3-6 in Harrisburg, Pa.
