ATLANTA - Freshman right handed pitcher Justin Lavender has been selected as the Southern Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Lavender tossed eight shutout innings against Covenant, as the Tigers defeated the Scots, 8-0. The freshman allowed three hits and struck out two batters. Of his 99 pitches, 60 were inside the strike zone.
He also stopped the bleeding for the Tigers against Birmingham-Southern, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing three hits, with one of those hits being a home run, in game two of the series.
On the week, the Roswell, Ga. native pitched to the tune of an 0.63 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched. He tossed 172 pitches, and 109 were inside the strike zone.
Lavender and the rest of the Tigers return to the diamond on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Maryville.
