Sewanee, Tenn. Sewanee head coach David Poggi announced today the addition of Derek Williams and Paul Campbell to the Tigers' Class of 2014.
Williams, a 5-8 Goalkeeper from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, played for Siegel High School for four years and was voted 1st Team All-District in 2009. In 2010, his play earned him a spot as the goalkeeper on the All-Area 1st Team. In addition to his athletic success, he earned both the Best English IV Student and the Best Biology Student Awards and was inducted into the Beta Epsilon Society. On top of all that, he graduated this year as one of the school’s Valedictorians.
Derek also played goalkeeper for the Murfreesboro Strikers where he helped lead his team to a 1st place finish in the Tennessee State Cup Division 2 Championships in 2008-2009.
“Derek is the type of goalkeeper a coach likes to have: brave, knowledgeable, a good shot stopper, and willing to work hard. He will surely add to the competitiveness of our team, as well as to it’s success,” said Head Coach David Poggi.
Campbell, a 5-10 midfielder from Lexington, Kentucky, graduated from Henry Clay High School after playing on the varsity team for three years. During his time there he was an Academic All-State player in 2007, 2008, and 2009. In his last season, he was voted to the All-District Team and 2nd Team All-City.
Along with his athletic successes, Paul was active off the field as well. He was involved in the National Honors Society, and the Beta Club. He has travelled to Florida on mission’s trips, and was involved in a benefit concert for Refugee Ministry, as well as maintaining a 4.0 GPA all four years of high school.
“Paul has the ability to make very sensible decisions when he is playing, something that we look for in all our players. He will certainly be a great addition to a very good incoming class”, said Head Coach David Poggi.
