SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Brian Maloney of Fort Worth, Texas will be become a member of the University of the South Tigers Men’s Soccer team this fall. Maloney, a 6’1” 160 central defender from Aledo High School, is head coach David Poggi’s first commitment to the Class of 2014.
During Brian’s high school career he was a four-year Varsity starter and team captain. In his senior year, he led the Bearcats to the Regional Quarter-Finals. Maloney, the 2010 Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year, was named 1st Team All-State as a senior as well. Most recently he was voted 1st Team All-Southwest Region (TX, OK, LA, AR, NM).
Brian also played club for both the Tejanos and Solar Soccer Club. During this time his teams won the Grand Championship, Division 1 Classic League, Texas State Cup, the Memorial Cup and the Dallas Cup (his Solar Red team recently made it to the 2009 Dallas Cup finals).
In addition to his many honors on the field, Maloney is an excellent student and has been an active member in his community (Brian was selected to the All-State Academic Team all four years at Aledo). He has volunteered locally on behalf of Habitat for Humanity and has participated on several mission trips with his church, SBC Aledo.
“We are very happy that Brian chose Sewanee to continue this new chapter in his life,” said Coach Poggi. “He is an outstanding student-athlete, who I believe can contribute immediately in several roles and help make us better. I look forward to working with him over the next four years.”
