SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee head coach David Poggi announced this week the addition of Dillon Flynn to the Tiger’s Soccer roster for the fall of 2010.
Dillon, a 5’9” midfielder, comes to the Mountain after a year at the Bridgton Academy in Maine. Before his time at Bridgton, he was a four-year Letter winner at the Durham Academy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He started three years there as a holding midfielder and in his junior year was voted 1st Team All-Conference. In his senior year he served as the team’s co- captain and was named 1st Team All-Conference. He was also voted the Most Valuable Player and earned a spot on the All-Region I North Carolina Coaches Team.
During his year at the Bridgton Academy he helped lead his team to it’s first undefeated season in the school’s history and was voted to play in the New England Prep School Athletic Council All-Star game. “Dillon was a necessity for our team. His work ethic and day-to-day actions were indispensible. He is a genuine person”, said Bridgton coach Kevin Mellon.
In addition to his work ethic on the field, Dillon has consistently been a top student and an active member in his community as well. At the Durham Academy he achieved Honors in his junior and senior years. In his year at the Bridgton Academy, he received High Honors all four quarters (3.5 GPA or above cumulative). And in his free time, he helped with the “Wolverines in Training” Soccer Clinics for kid’s ages 5-15.
“Dillon has not only played at a competitive club level, but also was an important player in the success of the Bridgton Prep School team this past year. He is comfortable in wide and central roles and his ability to play quickly will be an asset this season,” said Coach Poggi of Flynn.
