SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Named its inaugural All-SCAC men’s lacrosse team earlier this week and
Thomas Moore (Dallas, Texas, Episcopal) and
Jack Thomasson (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) received first team nods for Sewanee, while
Jeb Leva (Lexington, Va., Episcopal ) and
Pierce Leonard (Charlotte, N.C., Culver Academy) were named to the second team. Moore, a freshman, also received co-Newcomer of the Year Honors for his play. Additionally, Sewanee's
Neat Clark (Houston, Texas, Houston Episcopal School) was named to the SCAC’s All-Sportsmanship Team for his sportsmanship and leadership this year.
Moore, a first-year midfielder from Dallas, Texas, scored 16 goals and notched 6 assists. His 22 points were good for third on the team lead while his 16 goals ranked second on the team. “To be named Co-Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference speaks volumes about Thomas,” Watters continued. “He is a very difficult midfielder to defend and has the work ethic to continue to improve. He has the opportunity to have a great athletic career as Sewanee.”
Thomasson is an attackman and scored 24 goals and had three assists this year. As a sophomore, he had scored more career goals than anyone in the program’s three-year history with 47. “Jack has been a very valuable member of our team the last couple of years,” said head Sewanee coach Marty Waters. “This conference has a number of talented attackmen in it and it’s great to see Jack recognized as one of the best.”
Leva, a defender from Lexington, Va., played strong defense for the Tiger backfield all year and “really came into his own. He’s put in a ton of work on and off the field since he arrived on the Sewanee campus three years ago and it’s really paid off. I am really proud of him,” added Watters. Leva picked up 25 ground balls on the year.
Leonard was a key midfielder for Sewanee this year and added 13 goals and co-led the team with eight assists. He also had 25 ground balls. “Pierce played most of the season at midfield, where he usually drew the attention of the opposing team’s Long Stick Midfielder. At the beginning of April, before we played the bulk of our conference games, he was asked to move to attack. The fact that he received All-Conference recognition at a new position for him really speaks to his athleticism and versatility,” concluded Watters.
