FULL RESULTS
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Sewanee track team competed at the Austin Peay Governors Invitational on Saturday in Clarsville. “Today was an all-around great day for the Tigers. Our athletes are really on their way to peak at SCAC Championships in a few weeks with great performances,” added Sewanee coach Jeff Heitzenrater.
For the men,
Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore) finished second in the 200 meter dash with a 22.56 finish – good for second place and the first finish amongst Division III runners. Brown’s performance is the second best performance so far this year in the SCAC. Brown was also fourth in the 100 meter dash with an 11.27.
Clay Bond (Atlanta, Ga., Lovett) was fifth in the 800 with a 1:58.38 and was fourth in the 1500 with a 4:06.70 – Both personal best performances.
Geoff Marolda (Houston, Tex., Houston Episcopal) ran a personal best 1:01.32 in the 400 hurdles for a fifth place finish. Marolda’s run ranks him fifth so far in the SCAC this year.
Justin Taylor (Tampa, Fla., Jesuit) was fourth in the discus for a personal best 41.93 and also threw personal bests in the shot and javelin.
Leisha Meade (Sevierville, Tenn., Pigeon Forge) highlighted the women’s effort with a school record setting hammer throw of 34.17, which puts her in fourth place so far in the SCAC.
Mitzi Harrington (Warner, N.H., Dana Hall) finished ninth I the 155 with a 5:10.51, which puts her in the top 10 in the SCAC heading into the championships in a few weeks. Harrington was eighth in the two mile run with a 12:13.96.
Sewanee will compete at the Boston Moon Invitation at Tennessee State next weekend before hosting the Mountain Laurel Invitational on April 17th. The Tigers will compete at the SCAC Championships in Conway, Arkansas April 23 and 24.
