SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships are well underway after a full day of spring sports action and the Sewanee track, tennis and golf teams are in the action.

Jeremy Character (Marietta, Ga., Wheeler) highlighted the Sewanee track and field effort at Hendrix in Conway Arkansas in day one of the SCAC Championships with a SCAC championship in the shot put with a toss of 46-05.75. After the prelims, Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore) is seeded first in the 100 meter dash with a 10.89.

At the tennis championships in Little Rock, the Tiger women picked up a 7-1 win over Southwestern, while the men fell 5-4 to conference foe Oglethorpe. Both teams will resume play tomorrow.

At the SCAC golf championships at Stone Mountain, Ga., the Tiger women are in eighth place with a 480 team score. Cally McGowan (Lake Forest, Ill., Lake Forest) led the Tigers with a 106 on the day. The Tiger men are led by Chris Beveridge (Alexandria, Va., St. Stephens/St. Agnes) and Neil Dyer (Brentwood, Tenn., Brentwood), who each shot an 82 on the day. The Tigers have a 338 team score and are ahead of Millsaps and Hendrix.
