Complete SCAC Release
ATLANTA, Ga. 4/22/10 – For the third consecutive year, junior outfielder Taylor Irwin (Brentwood, Tenn., Battle Ground Academy) has been selected first team All-SCAC by the league’s baseball coaches. The announcement was made today in Millington, Tenn. at the SCAC baseball tournament. Teammate Chris Mauro (Washington, D.C., St. Alban's) was named honorable mention.
Irwin, who batted .406 for the season, led Sewanee in virtually every individual offensive category. Besides batting average, he led the Tigers in slugging percentage (.677), on-base percentage (.450), hits (54), RBI (36), doubles (14) and total bases (90).
Irwin’s fourteen doubles tied him for fifth in the SCAC and his .677 slugging percentage was eighth best. He was also ranked in the Top 10 in batting average and total bases.
Mauro batted .311 with six homeruns and twenty-two RBI. He was also 1-3 on the mound with a 5.58 ERA on the season.
“I am so proud of Taylor and Chris. For the third year in a row, Taylor was a force at the plate and played every position but first base and catcher. Chris was solid at the plate, and showed his versatility by pitching, playing some behind the plate, and playing well at first base which was a new position for him. Congratulations to both and we look for another strong season from them next year.” commented veteran Sewanee baseball coach Scott Baker.
