SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee track and field teams hosted the annual Mountain Laurel Invitational on Saturday at Harris Stadium. The men’s and women’s teams for Sewanee took home the first place prize with wins over Austin Peay, Berry, Lee, Chattahoochee Tech, Lipscomb and Montevallo.


For the Sewanee women, individual winners were Arden Jones (Greenwood, Va., Western Albemarie) in the pole vault with a mark of eight feet and Leisha Meade (Sevierville, Tenn., Pigeon Forge) in the hammer throw. Meade was also second in the discus and the shot put.La'Toyia Slay (Greenville, Miss., St. Joseph's) was second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.13 and Mitzi Harrington (Warner, N.H., Dana Hall) was second in the 1500 (5:04.90). Danielle McIntyre (Plant City, Fla., Plant City) was second in the long jump and the triple jump.


Defending SCAC champ Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore) won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. His 200 time of 22.40 puts him in first place so far this year in the SCAC. Geoff Marolda (Houston, Tex., Houston Episcopal) took home the top medal in the 400 hurdles and the high jump, while Jeremy Character (Marietta, Ga., Wheeler) and Justin Taylor (Tampa, Fla., Jesuit) won the shot put and the discus, respectively. Taylor also won the javelin. Andrew Jolley (Morristown, Tenn., Morristown West), after winning two tennis matches for Sewanee in the morning, finished the 5000 in fifth place with a 16:35.


The Tigers will compete at Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas next weekend at the SCAC Championships.
