SEWANEE, Tenn. 3/7/10 – The Birmingham Southern Panthers took both ends of today’s softball doubleheader from the Sewanee Tigers to sweep the four-game SCAC series.

 

The Panthers defeated the Tigers 14-0 in game 1.

 

Carly Warfield (Nashville, Tenn., Ensworth) and Virginia Zakas (Atlanta, Ga., Westminster) picked up a hit apiece to pace the Tigers at the plate.

 

Warfield was charged with loss for Sewanee.

 

In game 2 of the doubleheader Erin Polena (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mt. Lebanon), Winnie Smith (Larchmont, N.Y., Mamaroneck High School) and Zakas all had one hit for the Tigers as the Panthers came away with the 14-1 victory.

 

Caitlin Sneeden (New Providence, N.J., New Providence) drew a bases loaded walk to drive Smith home for Sewanee’s only run of the game.

 

Warfield was again tagged with the loss.

 

The Tigers are now 0-4 on the season and return to action on Saturday, March 27 when they travel to Centre for an SCAC doubleheader.
