WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Sewanee women's Lacrosse team held off a late Whittier rally Wednesday in California to earn a 19-15 win and move to 4-1 so far in 2010. The Tigers led 11-5 at the half.
Sewanee took 31 shots on the day and 26 were on target, while Whittier took 39 shots during the game.
Megan Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) led Sewanee with four goals and two assists and
Molly Arnold (Brooklandville, Md., Bryn Mawr) had five goals. Sewanee won 19 draw controls compared to 17 for the Poets. The Tigers were also 4-6 in free-position goals.
Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, Va., Norfolk Academy) and
Theresa Monypeny (Memphis, Tenn., Hutchinson) split time in goal for Sewanee and each had seven saves.
The Tigers (4-1) will return home to host Trine on Friday. Whittier is now 2-4.
