WINTER HAVEN, Fla. 3/17/10 – McDaniel College broke open a 2-2 game with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and held on to beat the Sewanee Tigers 6-3 today in Florida spring break baseball action.
Alan Komorowski (Rochester, N.Y., Aquinas Institute), Joe Reilly (Milton, Ga., Mt. Pisgah) and Taylor Irwin (Brentwood, Tenn., Battle Ground Academy) led the 10-hit Sewanee effort with two hits each. Chris Mauro (Washington, D.C., St. Alban's) and Michael Joseph (Orlando, Fla., Dr. Phillips) each belted a solo homerun for the Tigers.
Freshman Jacob Simpson (Franklin, Tenn., Battle Ground Academy) was solid on the mound for the Tigers allowing only one earned run on eight hits to the Green Terror in six innings of work. Colin Barrera (Ponte Vedra, Fla., Providence) was charged with the loss in relief.
Sewanee is now 5-10 on the season and will continue Russ-Matt play tomorrow as they face Knox College.
