Sewanee Equestrian Competes at Regional Championships

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Nine Sewanee Equestrian Team members competed at the 2010 IHSA Zone 5, Region 1 Regional Championship Horse Show Friday.  Maryville College hosted the afternoon competition at Icon Sporthorses in Friendsville, Tennessee.  Riders qualify to compete at this horse show when they accumulate in their division during regular season competition.  The Champion, Reserve Champion and third place finishers in each class at the Regional Championship qualify to compete at the 2010 IHSA Zone 5 Finals Horse Show to be held on April 10, 2010 at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. 

For Sewanee, Martha Cook (Oak Ridge, Tenn., Oak Ridge) was the Champion in Novice Flat and Axton Reilly (Aledo, Tex., Ft. Worth Country Day) placed fourth in the same class.  Will Burns (Atlanta, Ga., Holy Spirit Prep) was the Reserve Champion in Walk-Trot.  Eleanor Kibler (Columbia, S.C., Heathwood Hall) won the championship and Hunter Bratton (Raleigh, N.C., Ravenscroft) placed third in Intermediate Fences.  Lindsay Maxwell (Atlanta, Ga., Westminster) won the Reserve Champion in Open Fences and placed third in Open Flat.  In Intermediate Flat Eliza Philpott (Castle Rock, Colo., Rock Canyon) placed third and Veronica Phillips (Durham, N.C., Cardinal Gibbons) placed sixth.  Kaki Nix (Birmingham, Ala., Mountain Brook) placed fifth in the Walk-Trot-Canter class.
