SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee opened its 2010 indoor track and field season Saturday by hosting the Tiger Indoor Invitational. No team scores were kept since most teams traveled with incomplete squads.

Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore) highlighted the Sewanee effort with a win in the 55 meter dash (6.54) that broke his own school record. Brown was also third in the 200 meter dash with a personal best 23.58. Sewanee's Clay Bond (Atlanta, Ga., Lovett) was the first place finisher in the 800 with a 2:00.67 mark. Justin Taylor (Tampa, Fla., Jesuit) was second place with an 11.79 meter toss in the shot put.

For the women, La'Toyia Slay (Greenville, Miss., St. Joseph's) was second in the 55 meter dash with a 7.74. She was also third in the 200 with a mark of 28.58. Cara Martin (Oklahoma City, Okla, Casady) was second in the 3000 with an 11.10.38. Mary Matthews (New Orleans, La., Sacred Heart) tied for third, clearing 2.6 meters in the pole vault. Leisha Meade (Sevierville, Tenn., Pigeon Forge) was second in the weight throw (10.58 m) and third in the shot (9.93 m).

Sewanee's next competition will be the Sewanee Indoor Invitational in two weeks at the Fowler Center.
