Sewanee Falls to Centre Men

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Centre played men's basketball at Juhan Gym in Sewanee on Sunday and the visiting Colonels jumped out to a 29-9 lead over Sewanee at halftime. Sewanee rallied, outscoring the Colonels 29-27 in the second, but the deficit was too great to overcome. Centre earned the 56-38 win.


Matt Cowan (Goodlettsville, Tenn., Hendersonville Beech) scored a career high 11 points and was 3-5 from behind the three-point line for Sewanee. Garrett Hollingsworth (Roanoke, Va., North Cross) was also in double digits for the Tigers with 10. Greg Ross led Centre with 13 points. Centre had a 33-22 edge in field goal percentage, but Sewanee led 25% to 22% from behind the arc.


Sewanee is 4-19 and 1-14 in the SCAX and will play at Tennessee Temple on Tuesday before traveling to Oglethorpe on Saturday for some SCAC ball. Centre is now 12-9 and 8-6 in the league.
