Sewanee Hits .500 with Women's Lacrosse Win

SEWANEE
, Tenn. 3/27/09 – Catherine Sanders (Peachtree City, GA, Starr's Mill) scored six goals and assisted on another and Megan Velie (Charlottesville, VA, St. Anne's- Belfield) had five goals as Sewanee outlasted Guilford College 21-15 in a D-3 women’s lacrosse match played in Sewanee on Friday.

 

Sewanee took the six-goal victory after leading 12-9 at the half.

 

Victoria Friedman (Charlottesville, VA, Episcopal), Page Carpenter (Baltimore, MD, St. Paul's School for Girls), Megan Welton (Germantown, TN, Houston) and Steffi Renninger (Darnestown, Md., Sidwell Friends) all contributed two goals to the scoring effort.  Friedman led the Tigers with 3 assists.

 

Shelly Nogueira led the Guilford effort with five goals.

 

Sewanee outshot Guilford 41-27 for the game.  Guilford led in draw controls 19-18.

 

Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, VA, Norfolk Academy) had ten saves in goal for Sewanee. Elyzza-May Callahan picked up 13 saves for Guilford.

 

The Tigers had 32 ground balls to 29 for Guilford.

 

With the victory Sewanee evened its record at 4-4 on the season.  The Tigers return to action on Sunday when they host Denison University at noon
