BOX SCORE

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee hosted Bates (Maine) on Thursday night at Puett Field in Division III women’s lacrosse play and Bates topped the host Tigers 20-9. “We played an very good out of region team tonight that is a member of arguably the best conference in DIII (NESCAC) and held our own,” said Sewanee coach Michele Dombrowski. “ We had Molly Farmer step up for a sick goalie and do an amazing job in a high-pressure situation. We did a good job with things we have been working on during practice, we just need to clean up a few things.”

Carly Grimm (South Salem, N.Y., John Jay) led Sewanee’s effort with five goals and an assist. Megan Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) logged three goals and Steffi Renninger (Darnestown, Md., Sidwell Friends) chipped in one of her own. Caroline Thomas led the Bobcats with five goals. Sewanee led the draw control tally 17-13 and both starting goalies had eight saves.

Sewanee falls to 0-1 and Bates is now 1-0. The Tigers will host Greensboro College on March first.
