SEWANEE, Tenn.
11/7/09 – The Sewanee Tigers continued their impressive start to the 2009-10 season with a strong finish in the second day events of the Ninth Sewanee Invitational.
Sewanee finished only behind Cumberland College in the combined, men’s and women’s team totals.

"It was far from just our normal event winners that impacted this meet", said head coach Max Obermiller. "Our depth in each event was excellent and the willingness of the team to swim multiple tough events showed that our strength is in our ability to swim well in every race and every distance. These are attributes of a team that will see many successes this season."

Courtland Day (Barnesville, Ga., Upson-Lee) followed up his performance on Friday with another strong day on Saturday.  Day won the men’s 400 IM and the 100 and 200 breastroke events.

Sara Neil (Decatur, Ala., Decatur) and Haley Shepherd (Evans, Ga., Evans) highlighted the day in the pool for the women’s team.  Neil captured the 50 freestyle and the 100 and 200 butterfly.  Shepherd had wins in the 400 IM and 100 backstroke

The Sewanee men’s 200 medley relay team composed of Day, Philip Link (Atlanta, Ga., Lovett), Jaime de la Fuente (Prospect, Ky., Trinity) and Ryan Holody (Austin, Texas, St. Andrew's) took home first place.

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, November 21 when they host Milligan and Asbury at the Fowler Center pool.
