Sewanee Eliminated from SCAC Tournament with Overtime Loss to Rhodes

CONWAY, Ark. 11/7/09 – Rhodes College scored a goal on a penalty stroke with 50 seconds to play in the first overtime period to take a 2-1 victory and eliminate Sewanee from the SCAC Championship Field Hockey Tournament.

 

A goal by Elise Landau (Wernersville, Pa., Lancaster Country Day) in the second minute of the game staked Sewanee to an early lead.  The goal came on an assist from Clare Ashburn (Washington, D.C., Holton-Arms).

 

Rhodes’ Libby Feaster tied the contest with a goal at the 18:29 mark of the first half.

 

The game ended in regulation tied at 1-1.

 

In the first overtime period, Charlie Wagner scored on a penalty stroke to give the Lynx the 2-1 victory.

 

Emily Detmer (Denver, Colo., Pomfret) had eight saves in goal for the Tigers.

 

Rhodes outshot Sewanee 16-8 and held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.

 

Sewanee ends the season at 7-12.
