SUWANEE, Ga. – Sewanee has had three 2009 field hockey players named All-Conference, according to Dwayne Hanberry, commissioner of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Senior Clare Ashburn (Washington, D.C., Holton-Arms) and junior Caroline Carlin (Gladwyne, Pa., Country Day) were named to the first team, while junior Caitlin McNaughton (Middleburg, Va., Foxcroft) got an Honorable Mention nod.
Ashburn, the lone Tiger senior in 2009, scored six goals and also logged four assists on the year. Carlin led the Tigers with nine goals and also had a defensive save. McNaighten led the team with two defensive saves and also chipped in two goals.
"Clare, Caroline, and Caitlin played very well for us all season, and I am glad to see that they are being recognized by the conference for their efforts and superior play,” said coach Jen Baldaccini. “Since the SCAC only has first team and honorable mention awards, it is a great honor for these girls and for our team as a whole. Although we didn't have as successful of a season as we were hoping for, it is great for the girls to be awarded in such a way and will give the returning players motivation for next season."
