Sewanee Edges Out Millsaps, Remains Perfect in SCAC

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee hosted Millsaps in SCAC men's soccer and the wet, physical contest ended 3-2 in favor of Sewanee. The Tigers are unbeaten at 3-0 in the SCAC and is currently in first place in the league so far in 2009.

Sewanee jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a Patrick Johnson (Cleveland, Tenn., McCallie) goal in the fourth minute and it wouldn't be until the second half that Millsaps would tie it up (58th minute) with a successful penalty kick attempt. The Majors went up a goal three minutes later before Sewanee tied it up in the 77th minute on a Stuart Maxey (Roanoke, Va., Salem) PK. With just three minutes to play, newcomer Brennon Picarella (Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers) scored the game-winner to give Sewanee the 3-2 final edge.

The Tigers outshot the Majors 22-11 and had eight corner kick opportunities compared to just three for Millsaps. Millsaps was charged with three red cards and four yellow cards in the game, compared to one yellow for Sewanee. Chris Grover got the win in goal for Sewanee and had four saves. Dylan Broussard had seven saves in goal for Millsaps.

Sewanee is now 7-3 so far in '09 and 3-0 in the SCAC. The Tigers will play at Maryville College in non-conference play next Saturday.
